Tracking the Path of COVID-19 in Haiti
Shortly after the first reports of COVID-19 cases in Haiti, we drew on our expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) to quickly develop a deep-learning model for forecasting local outbreaks in the country.
Since 2012, Analysis Group has been providing pro bono medical services research to the Haitian nonprofit GHESKIO, which works with the Haitian government to provide health care and humanitarian support to Haiti’s most vulnerable populations. In mid-2020, our GHESKIO contacts alerted us to the Ministry of Public Health and Population’s efforts to develop forecasts for the spread of COVID-19 throughout the country’s 10 regions. Such forecasts typically are important for understanding how to make the best use of scarce but critical resources such as ventilators, oxygen, and other medical supplies. ■
