Economic Impact Studies of Hotel/Casino Developments
Analysis Group has been retained on numerous assignments to evaluate the economic impact of hotel/casino developments. In response to a ballot initiative seeking to legalize Indian gaming, Senior Advisor Bruce Strombom conducted a comprehensive analysis of the economic and fiscal impact of Indian gaming in California and provided testimony before the National Gambling Impact Study Commission. Since that initial study, Analysis Group has assessed the economic impact of more than a dozen existing and proposed casino developments across the country. A range of analytic approaches has been used in these studies including consumer surveys to estimate demand, “gravity” models of retail trade to estimate the impact on competing gaming facilities, and input-output models including IMPLAN and RIMS II to quantify the impact of these developments on economic activity, employment, wages, and tax receipts.
