Rogers Communications Acquisition of Shaw Communications
Analysis Group and academic affiliate Roger Ware were retained on behalf of Rogers Communications in connection with its proposed $26 billion acquisition of Shaw Communications, which would create the second-largest telecommunications provider in Canada.
An Analysis Group team supported academic affiliate Roger Ware, who provided economic expertise and testimony before the Competition Tribunal. Professor Ware opined on the approach to assessing whether the efficiencies that would arise from the proposed transaction exceeded any anticompetitive effects and provided practical considerations to inform the balancing weights methodology used in Superior Propane. The Competition Tribunal approved the deal, and the Federal Court of Appeal upheld the decision. The parties subsequently completed the transaction.
