St. Jude Medical, Inc. v. Access Closure, Inc.
The US District Court for the Western District of Arkansas recently found that Access Closure, Inc. willfully infringed certain vascular closure device patents held by Analysis Group client St. Jude Medical, Inc. Vascular closure devices are used by physicians to close punctures in the femoral artery after diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
Analysis Group was retained by the law firm of Irell & Manella, LLP to evaluate St. Jude Medical's damages resulting from Access Closure's patent infringement. A case team including Senior Advisor Keith R. Ugone and Managing Principal Lauren R. Kindler provided consulting, deposition, and trial support to counsel. Dr. Ugone prepared an expert report on damages and provided deposition and trial testimony.
The jury awarded St. Jude Medical $27.1 million in lost profits and reasonable royalty damages, representing one of the largest patent infringement verdicts in the state of Arkansas.
