Manager

Managers are responsible for leading client case teams and structuring the overall analytical approach to cases. They work with senior leaders to respond to lead inquiries and prepare proposals. Managers also play an active role in our business development and affiliate support initiatives. They act as mentors and aid in the development of junior consultants.

Our generalist managers often work across a variety of practices during their careers with Analysis Group, though some choose to specialize within just one or two areas. Health care managers are staffed to cases within our HEOR, Epidemiology & Market Access practice.

Analysis Group fosters an academically oriented work environment with an emphasis on teamwork and collaboration across multiple areas of expertise. To read more about our view of economic consulting, visit our What is Economic Consulting? page.

AG Orientation: All new full-time employees attend an annual orientation in Boston. Orientation features speeches from senior staff, small group discussions, and social events. New employees return to work with a greater understanding of our history, work, culture, and people, as well as an expanded network of peers and resources to help them succeed at our firm.

Analysis Group University (AGU): All employees can access our centralized online learning portal and view hundreds of training videos, presentations, and other targeted training content on demand. Technical and nontechnical trainings are available.

Client Management Workshop: This highly interactive workshop cultivates skills for building and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders. Taught by senior consultants, the retreat-style program also offers managers from different offices the opportunity to build their professional network at AG.

Coaching: Analysis Group uses coaching to help employees develop and hone skills, work through challenges, examine mindsets, and accelerate growth. The firm offers one-on-one coaching and group coaching workshops on topics like communication, networking, leadership, career planning, work-life integration, and more.

Productive Conversations: Our Productive Conversations curriculum offers consultants and administrative staff a framework for approaching difficult conversations with clients, senior staff, direct reports, and teams. For new managers, the framework is delivered as a cross-office, full-day workshop that allows participants to practice these effective techniques in small group settings.

Opportunities for Advancement

All managers have many opportunities to hone their analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills. These opportunities include trainings, recruiting initiatives, DE&I initiatives, mentoring junior consultants and interns, and onboarding new people onto case teams. Managers also have the opportunity to receive mentorship from more senior consultants, coordinated via their advisors.

Many managers also extend their leadership and case management skills by doing pro bono case work. Please see our Pro Bono at Analysis Group page for details.

The Review Process

Everyone at Analysis Group has a hand in helping peers and colleagues grow and develop in their careers. The firm takes the annual performance review process very seriously. Supporting each other in our long-term development is central to our continued success.

Every fall, as part of the review process, we reflect on all aspects of each employee’s performance. This includes case work, project contributions, and firm and community-building contributions such as advising, leading, and mentoring. We find that our review process contributes enormously to the cohesive, collaborative, and principled environment that makes our employees take such pride in our firm.

Analysis Group has an internal labor market. Our consultants build connections and find new case work based on their interests and support from our staffing coordinators. Some generalist managers work primarily within one practice. Others choose to gain their experience across a variety of practices and case types. Health care managers expand on their expertise in the life sciences fields and are able to explore treatment areas across our HEOR, Epidemiology & Market Access practice.

Managers work with other internal consultants at all levels of experience, including senior staff, as well as with law firms, academic and industry leaders, and experts within their fields.

Does Analysis Group follow a hybrid work model? Does it allow the flexibility to work fully remotely?
At AG, we are committed to developing and retaining talent, and want to foster an environment in which we are as happy and productive as possible. To that end, we believe that it’s best for us to be together in the office most of the time, and that our collective presence in the office is vitally important for the collaboration, mentorship, networking, and cultural cohesion that make AG such a special place. We also believe that over the long term, most of us will have more career growth and offer better support to one another if we are in the office a significant amount. For that reason, we ask all AG employees to be in the office at least three days per week in a typical week. We also value flexibility and in some cases, we provide additional opportunities for people to work remotely, taking into consideration role, tenure, firm contributions, and geography.
