Summary of Experience

Professor Shavell has extensive consulting experience in commercial litigation involving contracts, torts, punitive damages, regulation, violations of public law, class actions, and intellectual property. His work spans multiple industries, including oil, automobiles, computer hardware and software, pharmaceuticals, and insurance. He has published more than 100 articles, mainly in the application of economics to legal issues, and four books. Professor Shavell was recently awarded the Ronald H. Coase Medal for contributions to scholarship in law and economics, has been a Guggenheim fellow, is an elected fellow of the Econometric Society, and is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a past president of the American Law and Economics Association; a past director of the Program of Law and Economics at the National Bureau of Economic Research; the director and founder of the John M. Olin Center for Law, Economics, and Business at Harvard University; and serves on the editorial boards of multiple professional journals.
