Analysis Group Cohosts Panel on Risk and Loss Assessment in Emerging Economies at Paris Arbitration Week
June 27, 2025
Analysis Group Principal Jessica Resch joined a panel discussion on the assessment of risk and loss in emerging economies at the 2025 Paris Arbitration Week. The panel, which was cohosted by Analysis Group and Signature Litigation, brought together quantum experts and arbitration practitioners from the UK, France, and Kenya. The speakers discussed the risks – political, regulatory, economic, and climate – associated with emerging economies, the importance of those risks in valuation analyses, and the need for investors to stay engaged with local stakeholders to further their understanding and management of such risks. In addition to offering examples of the investment impact of various types of risk, panelists shared their perspectives on particular valuation methods and the ability of those methods to account for systemic and non-systemic risk.
The discussion also highlighted challenges associated with assessing loss in emerging economies, including the limited availability of data and the need for experts to provide transparent rationales for the assumptions underlying their adjustments to cash flow projections and discount rates. The conversation concluded with the panelists offering observations about the practical challenges of resolving disputes, especially for matters with particularly large damages claims.
