Managing Principal John Jarosz Testifies in $34 Million Patent Win for Analysis Group Client Sight Sciences
May 16, 2024
Analysis Group was retained to work with Cooley LLP – including Orion Armon, Jeffrey Karr, and Michelle Rhyu – and the ophthalmic medical device company Sight Sciences in a patent infringement litigation matter. Sight Sciences claimed that a rival company, Ivantis, and its parent company, Alcon, infringed several Sight Sciences patents, all related to technology to reduce intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients.
An Analysis Group team led by Vice President Yuan Tian supported Managing Principal John Jarosz, who filed several expert reports and testified at deposition and trial on lost profits and reasonable royalty damages incurred by Sight Sciences. Mr. Jarosz calculated those damages to be between $30 million and $44 million.
A jury in the US District Court for the District of Delaware found that Ivantis had willfully infringed Sight Sciences’ patents, and that the patents were not invalid. The jury awarded Sight Sciences $5.5 million in lost profits damages and $28.5 million in reasonable royalty damages.
