Senior Advisor Susan Tierney Addresses Electric System Reliability Concerns About EPA’s Proposed Greenhouse Gas Emissions Regulation at FERC Conference
November 15, 2023
Senior Advisor Susan Tierney spoke alongside other electric industry stakeholders in a panel discussion at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC’s) 2023 Annual Reliability Technical Conference. Panelists discussed electric reliability concerns about the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) recent proposal under Section 111 of the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. In her opening remarks, Dr. Tierney acknowledged the importance of electric system reliability and mentioned the various tools available to ensure the reliable supply of power, even as owners of fossil-fueled electric generating units are required to reduce emissions. She referenced her recent study prepared at the request of Environmental Defense Fund, in which she assessed and addressed industry stakeholders’ reliability-related comments and reactions to the proposed regulation.
